Understanding Adhyāropa through Word-Meaning and Indicative Meaning (Śabdārtha – Lakṣārtha and Adhyāropa) Adhyāropa (I know wrongly) does not arise because we do not know — it arises because we know wrongly. This wrong knowing comes from clinging to Śabdārtha (literal meaning) where Lakṣārtha (indicative meaning) alone is valid. The inner mechanism: • The mind grasps a word • Freezes at the literal meaning • Builds a false cognition • And reality is mis-seen Thus, Adhyāropa is not absence of knowledge — it is distorted knowledge. Here, Śabdārtha is the doorway, Lakṣārtha is the passage, Anubhava (direct recognition) is the destination. Now the Vedāntic sequence is clear: • Avaraṇa → Non-apprehension — I don’t know the truth • Adhyāropa → Misapprehension — I know wrongly • Advaita-jñāna → Wisdom — I know rightly This preserves the flow of understanding, not just the terminology — from ignorance, to error, to realization. Hari aum! 🙏
