Essence of the Second Verse The second verse teaches us how to prepare the mind for Self-knowledge. It reminds us that spiritual growth is not merely intellectual. It requires the right environment, the right attitude, and the right guidance. Śrī Ādi Śaṅkarācārya instructs us to: * Seek the company of noble and wise people. * Develop unwavering devotion to Bhagavān. * Cultivate inner virtues such as tranquillity, self-control, and forbearance. * Gradually give up actions driven by selfish desires. * Humbly approach a realised Guru and serve with reverence. * Listen attentively to the Mahāvākyas—the highest declarations of the Upaniṣads—which reveal our true nature as Brahman. One-line Summary The second verse teaches that a purified mind, devotion to Bhagavān, the guidance of a Guru, and the study of the Upaniṣads together prepare the seeker for the direct realisation of the Self. Hari aum Tat Sat.
