About

Essence of Chapter 17 in a Nutshell The central teaching of this chapter is: “A person is made by their śraddhā (faith). As one’s faith is, so one becomes.” (17.3) Faith is not merely belief but the orientation of one’s entire personality. It influences how one worships, eats, speaks, performs austerity, gives in charity, and ultimately lives. Therefore, spiritual growth requires refining one’s faith from tamas to rajas and from rajas to sattva, so that the mind becomes fit for Self-knowledge. In summary, Chapter 17 teaches that the quality of one’s inner faith determines the quality of one’s life. By consciously cultivating sāttvic śraddhā and dedicating all actions with the spirit of “Om Tat Sat,” the seeker becomes prepared for the highest realization. Hari aum! 🙏🏾
