About
Today we reflect on the causal body, the deepest layer of our personality, which serves as the cause of both the subtle and gross bodies. It exists in all three states, waking, dream, and deep sleep—and continues with us across lifetimes. Made up of countless latent tendencies, it has the potential to manifest as innumerable future experiences and lives, appearing almost inexhaustible (akṣara). Being rooted in ignorance, the causal body persists as long as ignorance remains. Yet, even in deep sleep, the pure causal state, we recognize “I existed” and later report “I slept well.” This reveals that I, the conscious Self, illumine both the presence and absence of thoughts. Therefore, I am not the causal body. I am beyond it—akṣarāt parataḥ paraḥ. Hari aum!
