According to Ādi Śaṅkara, karma binds only so long as I take myself to be the doer. The Self never acts. To see this actionlessness of the Self amidst all activity is to see akarma in karma. That is called as Jñāna–Karma–Sannyāsa–Yogaḥ… in short Karma-Yog. Vikarma is prohibited action, born of ignorance and desire. When knowledge burns the sense of doership, karma-phala can no longer bind. Hari Aum!
